Meet the Coaches
Head Coach Allie Waite
Head Coach Allie Waite grew up swimming competitively year round and played four years of water polo at the University of Maryland. She has been instructing group and private swim lessons for twenty years and believes that learning to swim promotes water safety, self-esteem as well as an overall enjoyment of physical fitness and exercise. Some of her favorite childhood memories and lifelong friends came out of her summer and winter swim teams. She teaches third grade at Davidsonville Elementary School and lives in Arnold with her husband and son.
Assistant Head Coach Matt
Assistant Head Coach Matt grew up in Annapolis, joining the Anemones at age 11, where he quickly flourished, discovering his love for the sport. At age 16, Matt started his coaching career as a volunteer with the littlest swimmers on the team. While swimming at Annapolis High School, Matt specialized in breaststroke, helping the team win the MD state championship medley relay in 2010. Matt continues to coach today in hopes of instilling the same passion for swimming that he has enjoyed since joining the team. His favorite color is Anemone Green.
Assistant Coaches Drew and Will
Assistant Coach Drew has been swimming since he was five years old. Coach Drew recently capped off a successful senior swimming season for Key School by taking home a bronze medal in the MIAA B Conference 100 freestyle. While swimming is important to Drew his passion is soccer. Drew was a key member of the Key School All-Conference Soccer team which went nearly undefeated in the 2018 season. Coach Drew enjoys leading Model UN and Key Investors for the Key School. Coach Drew founded Key Investors which focuses on investing and financial planning for Key School students. Coach Drew is also an active volunteer with the Centro de Ayudo. Coach Drew is currently a senior at Key School and is evaluating multiple offers from several prestigious universities. The kids on the team love working with Coach Drew and they love to cheer him on in races!
Assistant Coach Will has been part of the Annapolis Swim Team for the past decade and has been coaching since 2017. Will is a senior at Saint Mary's High School and currently trying to decide where to spend his next four years at college. At Saint Mary's, Will enjoys participating in an assortment of clubs and volunteer groups including STEM related clubs and volunteer groups that assist people with disabilities. During his time at St. Mary's Will has earned the title of Iron Saint, an award given out to students who have partaken in three sports for each year of high school. Will's sports include soccer in the fall, swimming in the winter, and track in the spring. Will's goal for coaching AST over the summer is to have enjoyable practices everyday and to work to better each swimmer on the team through hard work and positive engagement. Will is looking forward to the summer season and can't wait to see both the new and old swimmers.
AST is lucky to have on staff quite a few junior coaches. Our junior coaches work with our youngest and newest swimmers to help build confidence in the water.
